A lot has happened since Holy Week 2020. Now we have witnessed in our lifetime the ABS-CBN Shutdown 2.0 no thanks to the current administration critical of its News Organization. ABS-CBN Shutdown 1.0 happened on 9-23-1972 (Implementation of Martial Law) and took effect till the February 1986 EDSA Revolution and the eventual reopening of the network on 9-14-1986.
The 1st phase of the 2020 shutdown (dealing with free analog TV/radio) happened on 5-5-2020, weeks after Holy Week 2020; the 2nd phase of the shutdown (dealing with digital TV/radio) happened on 6-30-2020. The franchise was denied by the House of Representatives on 7-10-2020 with just a committee vote, not a House-wide vote, paving way for the closure of most of ABS-CBN's departments on 8-31-2020.
Then again, ABS-CBN programming found ways to be available on free analog and digital TV. Through various partnerships, ABS-CBN programming started to be seen on A2Z Channel (Channel 11-Manila) on October 2020 and on Mediaquest Network (TV5/Channel 5-Manila) on January 2021. Notably, ABS-CBN's Star Cinema filmography programming began airing on the channels of its traditional competitor GMA (Channel 7-Manila) this April 2022.
Cheers to ABS-CBN programming (including its News programming) being relayed to as many TV and radio channels nationwide (national/local) in time for Holy Week 2022 and Halalan 2022. That's a DEAL.
A new ABS-CBN channel on free TV and radio? That too is another DEAL!
