My Piece of Cake: Holy Week Programming on ABS-CBN

ABS-CBN has not yet announced its Holy Week programming. Well, take it from a network too busy to mind the Holy Week events. I'm sure, its programming (on Moundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday) will be:
  • special editions of TV Patrol and Bandila, plus Pinoy Big Brother (life goes on @ Kuya's House even on Holy Week-I wonder what's going on there by that time)
  • marathon of Filipino movies
  • special Holy Week shows sponsored by Jesuit Communications
I hope for this year, they may add either of the following:
  • special films on Holy Week (like 2004's Passion of the Christ)
  • marathon of cartoons and animated movies (in original English and not dubbed in Tagalog-please, the much-saluted dubbers need a long-needed break)
  • marathon of Asian/South American shows (the past: My Girl, Save the Last Dance for Me, Princess Lulu/the present: Inocente De Ti, Mirada de Mujer, Dos Amores, even Princess Hours and Something About 1%)
  • live coverage of Holy Week events: Moundy Thursday Chrism Mass, Moundy Thursday Washing of the Feet, Good Friday Memorial Commemoration (different from Way of the Cross and Seven Last Words-the difference: the Holy Host involved), Black Saturday's Easter Vigil [Why not try covering it? If ABS-CBN wills it, the network will do a first for its viewers! That's when I'll say Deal!]

And by Easter Sunday, what a way to cap off with a live coverage of the Pope's Easter Message from the State of Vatican, smack into TV Patrol! [Why not a special one-hour edition of TVP, featuring the Pope's Easter Message?]

I got news of the special programming on ABS-CBN's Studio 23. Well, Kabarkadas, here is the triple Lenten treat!

MOUNDY THURSDAY [5 APRIL 2007]
11:00am-6:30pm Comedy: GILMORE GIRLS-The Marathon Edition (10 Episodes)
6:30pm-8:00pm Special: The Road to El Dorado
8:00pm-11:00pm Special: Forrest Gump

GOOD FRIDAY [6 APRIL 2007]
11:00am-6:30pm Drama: 7TH HEAVEN-The Marathon Edition (9 Episodes)
6:30pm-10:00pm Special: The Ten Commandments
10:00pm-11:30pm Special: Judas and Jesus

BLACK SATURDAY [7 APRIL 2007]
10:00am-7:30pm Drama: 7TH HEAVEN-The Marathon Edition (12 Episodes)
7:30pm-9:15pm Special: Chicken Run
9:15pm-11:45pm Special: As Good As It Gets

I'll have to say Deal for Studio 23's programming this Holy Week.

My Piece of Cake: Letter to Kapamilya Foncy from Kapamilya Jan on Pacman

I received a series of texts today from a friend from Mindanao (I don't know whether he's in Davao, Koronadal, CDOC/Bukidnon)--an online friend from Kapamilya_ABS-CBN since 2003, whom we will call Kapamilya Foncy. He likes cartoons (mostly Asian cartoons or anime) and Asian drama-comedies (one of them Meteor Garden). The common denominator besides both of us as Kapamilyas: we like cartoons (anime or Western-made) and Meteor Garden. And one of our fave characters in Meteor Garden: Ching Her (the funny amusing sidekick and childhood friend of Shan Cai)! But we never met personally-I am in Metro Manila, he's in Mindanao. I hope for the day when we will get to meet.

Back to the texts I got from Foncy--he is bothered with GMA covering Pacman-Solis and not ABS-CBN. I think you're also bothered with that, like Foncy. In an attempt to ease the botherings, I post here my email to Foncy. (I told Foncy to wait for my email--responding to his texts will cut me a lot of cellphone load.)
++++++++++
To Ching Her-Foncy,

Maayong adlaw sa imo, Bai! I hope you can take time to read my message. Here's the story, as I see it.

In each of Pacman's fights, anyone is welcome to cover. It's just that Solar Sports, being a popular sports-only TV channel in the Philippines, gets the rights to showcase Pacman's fights on TV most of the time. Most of the time, Solar invited RPN to air the matches on free TV (since Solar is a cable TV channel-only those with cable TV's can watch the fights if it's exclusively aired on Solar Sports).

In late 2005, Solar invited ABS-CBN to cover Pacman's 2nd fight with Erik Morales for a change, instead of RPN. At that time, ABS-CBN's Sports Department is focused on covering the basketball games of the PBA, PBL (which will be covered by Solar Sports starting this year), NCAA and UAAP and other sports events as covered in the sports shows of ABS-CBN's media channels. Seeing the fight as a welcome addition to the projects of the network's Sports Department, ABS-CBN accepted the invitation.

Seeing the power of ABS-CBN in covering Pacman-Morales II, the Sports Department quickly made a deal with Pacman on covering Pacman-Larios in Manila (the first time an international boxing event taking place in the Philippines since the Ali-Frazier match in 1973) and later Pacman-Morales III. No problem seen at all. Solar seemed to bide its time for an opportunity.

Then, there's Pacman-Solis. Having not covered Pacman-Larios and Pacman-Morales III, Solar Sports quickly talked with Pacman, who later contacted the ABS-CBN Sports people.

Actually, ABS-CBN Sports got the rights for the Moment of Truth-Battle of Cebu (which was still talked about in the boxing world), Gerry Penalosa-Daniel Ponce de Leon/Barrera-Marquez (talked about until now) and Boom Boom Bautista-Sergio Medina/Oscar dela Hoya-Floyd Mayweather (larger, more world-class and more spectacular than Pacman's fights as boxing experts say). And ABS-CBN still has many other projects to mind, among them the most high-tech election coverage Halalan 2007-Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo (because it will involve election-related reports sent from millions of people's cellphones)! ABS-CBN has to think on Pacman-Solis. Estimating its budget, the network initially offered P10 million.

With Pacman running in Halalan 2007 as competitor to Congresswoman Darlene Antonino Custodio in South Cotabato, he naturally needs money to sustain his election campaign, much to the dismay of his ma. Pacman has to think.

So the Pacman's offer: P40 million. Solar Sports said: Deal! ABS-CBN said: No Deal.

And for a change, Solar Sports invited GMA to cover the fight on free TV. GMA jumped the gun and said: Deal!

ABS-CBN Versus GMA

ABS-CBN fanatics have no choice but to catch the news on Pacman's fight with Jorge Solis over TV Patrol, unless ABS-CBN plans to chronicle the fight in one way or another.

So, just calm down, bai. One song says, "The best things are yet to come...And somewhere down the road..." Win or lose via his fight with Jorge Solis on GMA and with Ms. Custodio on Halalan 2007, I hope the next Pacman fight will be on ABS-CBN-that's the time I can say Deal.

Well, what a long explanation! I hope that clears up your mind. Should you have anything to say or ask, please email me/text me ASAP.

See you around Ching Her-Foncy!

Yours,
Ching Her-Jan

If and when I will meet Kapamilya Foncy, I say Deal.

Now Serving: Welcome to My Blog! (I Forgot About It!)

Hi Kapamilyas! An idea popped on my mind as I post some items in this blog recently-how did I ever forget to introduce this blog to the online world?

Well, hello RP and hello world (computer program style)! Welcome to my blog. Yes, this is my blog. My name is Jan, a graduating student hoping to graduate this year 2007 (no more, no less)! I am currently doing thesis work and even part-time work (yes, I am working student) here in 2401 Taft Avenue in Manila (Alam Mo Na Iyan). It's good I found time to blog (thanks to my dear old campus offering free computer hours).

In the course of my blog I'll be posting information (classified as Fresh/Hot/Fast) and my random thoughts (classified as My Piece of Cake/Dessert) on ABS-CBN (my fave local TV network, the self-proclaimed #1 media network in RP). Yes, I am a Kapamilya-period. You can take me away from ABS-CBN, but you can never take ABS-CBN away from me. I am a Kapamilya-that's a fact. (Want Lysol for your bathroom, anyone?)

Invited by Mister Blogger (of course-I wonder how is he related to Mister Banker), and inspired by the 1,001 blogs devoted to ABS-CBN, this is different because of the personality handling this blog: me, of course. Everyone is entitled to his/her own piece of cake or dessert. I felt freedom of posting my views on the network upon accepting Mister Blogger's invitation.

Of course, it's inspired by Kapamilya Deal or No Deal. Wait, is it Deal or No Deal, or Meal or No Meal?

Anyway, enjoy visiting my blog, as Mister Blogger continuously asks me, "Kapamilya Jan, Deal or No Deal?" With my introduction, I hope your problem (about this blog) is solved, and you can say Deal.

Fresh/Hot/Fast: About Halalan 2007

ABS-CBN, the country's largest and most widely-watched team of media stations and talents, teams up with various well-known organizations and institutions and personnel to chronicle events surrounding the Philippine National Election Day-May 14 this year. This is the day the entire global Filipino community makes the decision for its future as it elects to the 12 seats of Philippine Senate and 18,000 seats of the local Philippine government via direct vote the people who will serve the populace for the next 3-6 years. The broadcast, the latest installation of ABS-CBN's series of coverages of the elections, has the title: Halalan 2007-Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo!

ABS-CBN has been at the forefront of covering the major news events in the Philippines-among them the Philippine National Elections. Being the Philippine TV network to have Philippine TV's first marathon broadcast of the elections via Halalan 1969, the network has set the trend of holding marathon broadcasts of the elections and continues on the tradition of holding the most reliable, integrated, in-depth, comprehensive and credible broadcast of the national elections among all other media networks.

ABS-CBN's media channels have begun covering the election-related events since January of this year-specifically the filing of candidacies and the election campaigns of the aspirants to the Philippine Senate and local offices nationwide. On January 15, it launched the Halalan 2007 Website and the Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo Campaign-two projects to be maintained by ABS-CBN Interactive. The coverage will continue on to the official tally of votes and the proclamation and inaguration of newly-elected officials.

For the election coverage, ABS-CBN got a lot of partners: Philippine Star, Business World, Business Mirror, Globe, Bayantel, STI, Pulse Asia, Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), Institute for Popular Democracy (IPD) and COMELEC-the government institution that manages the Philippine national elections.

Three of the country's newspaper organizations--the Philippine Star, Business World, and Business Mirror--will join ABS-CBN together with IPD to give the public the most comprehensive information before, during and after Election Day. IPD is a Philippine not-for-profit research and advocacy centre with a multi-disciplinary team of activist-scholars engaged with civil society groups, reform-minded government officials and government agencies. The organization at times specializes in the study of Philippine national elections, of which it has a database, the broadest in the country.

Globe and Bayantel-two of the country's leading telecommunications companies-will add up to ABS-CBN's unmatched nationwide technical might, as it will service the technological needs of the network's marathon Election Day broadcast.

For the marathon broadcast's operations (including the patrolling of votes) volunteers will come from IPD, Pulse Asia, PPCRV and STI. STI is an the educational institution of schools specializing in electronic/information/communication college education which will help in the network's marathon broadcast, specifically in the quick vote count report segments. PPCRV is a bona-fide, non-partisan, parish-based association organized and composed of civic-minded citizens drawn from various sectors of Philippine society that is the Catholic Church 's support for the elections. Pulse Asia will do the broadcast's other operations like the exit poll reports and other survey reports.

Starting 4:00am (Manila Time) on May 14, Halalan 2007 will be broadcast on a marathon basis on ABS-CBN Manila TV, ABS-CBN Regional TV, ABS-CBN Now, ABS-CBN International (The Filipino Channel and other global ABS-CBN channels), and the ABS-CBN News Channel. About 80 ABS-CBN TV channels nationwide (including Channel 2-the network's flagship Manila TV station and the 70+ ABS-CBN Regional TV Stations and Affiliates) will beam the coverage to make sure everyone will tune in to keep guard of their votes, and of course be informed and entertained on the events of Election Day. Halalan 2007 can be also seen on Channel 51, ABS-CBN's new digital channel in Mega Manila. One can check for the ABS-CBN TV channel/affiliate in his/her locality by clicking here.

Special broadcasts of Halalan 2007 will be on other media channels under ABS-CBN like Studio 23 (ABS-CBN's Manila-based UHF TV station), its nationwide Radio Patrol network (DZMM-AM 630 KHZ in Manila, DYAB-AM in Cebu, DXAB-AM in Davao and other AM radio stations and affiliates nationwide) and its nationwide My Only Radio For Life network (DWRR 101.9 MHZ in Manila and other FM radio stations nationwide). One can click here to check if he/she is tuned in to an ABS-CBN radio station/affiliate.

On Election Day, the comprehensive ABS-CBN's Halalan 2007 Website will improve to answer the election-related information needs of the visitors-voters and will run as smoothly as possible to give information to almost everyone on the Internet.

Viewers to the marathon broadcast on the main ABS-CBN channel will get glimpses of ABS-CBN Manila people anchoring the broadcasts. Anchoring the broadcast are Bandila's Korina Sanchez, Henry Omaga Diaz and Ces Orena-Drilon, TV Patrol World's Ted Failon, Karen Davila and Bernadette Sembrano, and Magandang Umaga Pilipinas' Julius Babao and Tintin Bersola, backed up by Gus Abelgas, Sol Aragones, Adrian Ayalin, Katherine de Castro, Mario Dumawal, Rose Eclarinal and Nadia Trinidad.

Anchoring the Radio Patrol-Manila DZMM Coverage (also heard nationwide) are Winnie Cordero, Cheryl Cosim, Alvin Elchico, Vic Lima, Alex Santos, Anthony Taberna, Ariel Ureta, Ricky Velasco and Pinky Webb. The Studio 23 Coverage will have Atom Araullo, JC Cuadrado, Mari Kaimo, Patty Laurel, TJ Manotoc, Marieton Pacheco, Jay Ruiz and Ria Tanjuakio-Trillo. The ANC Coverage will have Ricky Carandang, Angelo Castro Jr, RG Cruz, Pia Hontiveros, Cheche Lazaro, Twink Macaraig (formerly of Media Corp Singapore-Channel News Asia), Tina Monzon-Palma and Tony Velasquez, including ABS-CBN news executives Maria Ressa (formerly of CNN), Charie Villa (formerly of Reuters International) and Luchi Cruz Valdez.

Various talents and personalities of ABS-CBN's various media channels will be appearing at any rate in the broadcast when deemed necessary.

The broadcast will feature election-related reports from more than 50 live points stationed throughout Mega Manila, nationwide and worldwide. ABS-CBN will get every nook and cranny of the nation (and parts of the world) covered for the broadcast-from the COMELEC office in Manila, the election centers from Caloocan and Quezon City to Paranaque and Las Pinas, and the quick vote count centers in Makati to the election precincts in key nationwide cities such as Baguio, Cebu, and Davao and in worldwide regions in the Asia-Pacific (Singapore, China's Hong Kong and Australia), the Middle East, Europe and America.

Among the members of the Manila-based Patrol ng Pilipino who will report from various points in and out of Mega Manila for the broadcast are Dominic Alfelor, Kristel Aliño, Zyann Ambrosio, Niko Baua, Jorge Cariño, Jing Castañeda, Doland Castro, Willard Cheng, Miranda De Quiros, Zen Hernandez, Wheng Hidalgo, Paul Henson, Apples Jalandoni, Lynda Jumilla, Cecille Lardizabal, Charo Logarta, Maan Macapagal, Israel Malasa, Sheryl Mundo, Timi Nubla, Ana Puod, Ina Reformina, Liza Reyes, Dong Robles and Joey Villarama.

Among the members of the Patrol ng Pilipino based outside Mega Manila reporting for the broadcast are Dindo Amparo (Middle East), Victor Andal (Ilocandia), Terry Aquino (North Central Luzon/Dagupan), Nony Basco (Iloilo), Danny Buenafe (European Region), Dhobbie de Guzman (Northern Luzon/Baguio), Queenie Casimiro (Central Mindanao), Dexter Ganibe (Socsargen), Gigi Grande (Asia-Pacific/Australia), Leo Lastimosa (Cebu), Rico Lucena (Central Visayas), Stephen Manangan (Davao), Chito Maniago (North Central Luzon/Pampanga), Maja Moralde (South Cotabato), Stanley Palisada (North Mindanao), Yasmin Pascual Dormido (West Visayas), Aireen Perol (Bicolandia), Ging Reyes (American Region), Michelle Robin (South Mindanao), David Santos (West Mindanao), Kharren Serra (South Mindanao) and Jenny Villanueva (Zamboanga).

The marathon broadcast will cover the events before, during and after the operations of the Filipino voting precincts nationwide and worldwide. It will also feature interviews (live/studio-based) of people involved in the electoral exercise and reports on the network-sponsored election day surveys, exit polls and quick vote counts. Further, it will feature election-related news events covered by the viewers, the voters, the citizens, almost everyone who send in their reports (text-based/e-mail sent/multimedia-based/3G-based) to ABS-CBN's text number 2366 and its email
mms@abs-cbn.com via the most important segment of Halalan 2007--Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo! The reports on Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo, as collected by ABS-CBN Interactive, will be featured on all media channels of ABS-CBN.

For Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo, one can report on any election-related event in their area (a campaign promise not kept/a problem not given a solution by an official elected in the past poll/a case of election fraud or irregularity/a well-done job of an official elected in the past poll/a good election-related event before, during or after Election Day).

  • Anyone can join-he/she can use his/her cellphone (MMS-capable/3G-capable/just a simple cellphone) to send information to Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo hotline 2366, ABS-CBN's short messaging system center. Those with cellphones can text the reports in the following format IREPORT<space><YOUR NAME><space><YOUR ADDRESS><space><YOUR CONTACT NUMBER><space><YOUR REPORT> (with the picture/video/sound accompaniment-for the MMS/3G phones) to 2366.
  • For those with Internet-connected computers, they can e-mail reports with the accompanied pictures/sounds/videos (or even the links of those) to mms@abs-cbn.com - a special multimedia e-mail for Halalan 2007.
  • For people with only a telephone, they can call up ABS-CBN Manila: (02 for provincial callers/632 for international callers + 9244101). They can also try to call any ABS-CBN station/affiliate in the Philippines or TFC center anywhere in the world.

Lastly, ABS-CBN continuously educates and informs the people to go out and vote to make the people's voices heard. Without the global Filipino voter, there will be no Halalan 2007.

With such information that will make me tuned in to ABS-CBN on Election Day, I'll say Deal.

Fresh/Hot/Fast: Info on Halalan 2007 Plus More on ABS-CBN

Remember the ways to report to ABS-CBN for Halalan 2007: Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo!

1) Text your report in this format IREPORT<space><YOUR NAME><space><YOUR ADDRESS><space><YOUR CONTACT NUMBER><space><YOUR REPORT> to 2366 (available to all wireless phone networks in the Philippines).

2) For your election-related report in MMS, photos or videos (3G or not), send also to 2366 (for cellphone) or to the following e-mail address: mms@abs-cbn.com (for non-cellphone).

If you stumble upon a election-related news event, report ASAP!

With hopes for a better broadcast of Halalan 2007, and with ABS-CBN ready for it, I say Deal.

My Piece of Dessert: Boxing Bouts and Sports Events on ABS-CBN

On the Manny Pacquiao-Jorge Solis boxing match over GMA: I'm sure; the people there @ EDSA-Timog want revenge after their Sunday shows get Splat every time there is a Manny Pacquiao boxing match on ABS-CBN. And yes, what source of pride (and joy) and even arrogance and spite (to ABS-CBN) they will have once the Pacman-Solis fight made a record at the AGB-NMR Mega Manila ratings charts they highly regarded. It's possible the match may make a ratings record for GMA-but something to surpass the triple record victories of Pacman's fights (viewed over ABS-CBN) at AGB-NMR nationwide ratings charts-that I do not have to pay attention. (Pacman or not, boxing matches on ABS-CBN have become memorable-the Cebu boxing matches of unknown Pinoy boxers last Feb 2K6 were still much talked about now in the boxing world.)

Ah, why do some people regard TV shows of today as high or low as only per the ratings and not by one's personal assessment of how good is the quality of entertainment/ information the shows offer? Example: Low (single-digit) ratings are recorded for the ABS-CBN Saturday comedy show Let's Go-but this has been one of my weekend favorites because it's youth-oriented comedy dealing with real life on college, a first in ABS-CBN! I don't focus on the ratings. It was in the previous years (when I first joined the Yahoo Group Kapamilya_ABS-CBN) that I am excited whenever there are ratings charts and ABS-CBN wins eventually in the charts (in Mega Manila). But those days have just faded, as GMA wins in the Mega Manila ratings charts. Although there are now AGB-NMR nationwide ratings charts where ABS-CBN wins, I'm not very keen or detailed anymore on giving myself time for that.

Going back--although ABS-CBN never got the deal for the Pacman-Solis fight, they got the rights to cover the matches Marco Antonio Barrera-Juan Manuel Marquez (yes, yes, yes) and Gerry Penalosa-Daniel Ponce De Leon (a big YES-go Gerry-be happy to be Noypi)! And as the boxing experts might say, ABS-CBN caught a big fish in getting the rights to cover the match Oscar De la Hoya-Floyd Mayweather by May 5.

Here's the way I see it: in covering sports events ABS-CBN makes the people feel that the sports event is very important, as our own athletes need the citizens' support. It was time immemorial since ABS-CBN was at the forefront of covering sports events-from the 1968 Mexico City Olympics to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and now with Pacman's boxing bouts and the Studio 23-UAAP basketball games. I sense ABS-CBN has found value in covering sports events and broadcasting over ABS-CBN Manila. ABS-CBN has devoted most of its time and resources (and even its talents and connections) to bring sports events it deemed newsworthy to the people.

Why not the La Salle-Ateneo UAAP basketball game this year on ABS-CBN? (Yes, DLSU is back-with a vengeance!)

And win or lose, Pacman might eventually deal with ABS-CBN with his next boxing match after Mr. Solis and his election match with South Cotabato's lady lawmaker Ms. Custodio. I sense Pacman needs money to finance his campaign. (With Pacman's announcement of his candidacy, I almost shouted Takbo Vilma Dali after brilliant actress-turned-Mayor Vi announced her gubernatorial candidacy in Batangas-and I hope she, her husband-Senator Ralph Recto and her brother-in-law Ricky are now in good terms.)

As long as the boxing matches and even other sports events are on ABS-CBN: I say Deal.

My Piece of Dessert: ABS-CBN Halalan 2007

Forget about Manny Pacquiao-Jorge Solis boxing match over GMA. But not forget the match between Pacman and Darlene Antonino Custodio (a pretty lass-of-a-congresswoman whose name I won't forget because of her beauty and her strong conviction to her principles-exemplified in the Impeachment Proceedings @ our House of Representatives) over Halalan 2007 on ABS-CBN.

It's interesting to see a good-looking and strong boxing champ run against a tried-and-tested pretty lady lawmaker in South Cotabato's elections. (And will Gerald Anderson, a Gensan native-whom I find cool, vote there? If yes, to whom will he root for?) This is just one of the news events to see come 14 May 2007-Philippines' another National Election Day (and of course no classes and no work, equalling to a day @ home for me) which ABS-CBN will cover.

So many ABS-CBN media channels and stations worldwide will go full speed ahead along with its partners come May 14. Why I can, will and should watch Halalan 2007?

1) the comprehensive broadcasts of news events worldwide (from 50 cities and towns nationwide and key cities worldwide-related to the elections-even events on voting of global Pinoys-thanks to the reach of ABS-CBN Philippines and TFC-the widest in Philippine TV) with the help of its ever-reliable partners

2) the continuing longest-running tradition of nationwide/worldwide marathon coverage of the country's national elections in Philippine TV history (ABS-CBN Halalan 1969 marathon broadcast-the first among the Philippine TV networks that time)

3) the gathering of talent and skill of the members of the most formidable news team and its partners (GMA's Mike is from DLSU; I like GMA's Mel since ABS-CBN's TV Patrol; but for me nothing beats ABS-CBN's TV Patrol, Maria Ressa-since CNN days, Korina and Karen and the Patrol ng Pilipino all the more. I hope the ABS-CBN stars/personalities could appear in the various parts of the marathon broadcast.)

4) the broadcast of the Philippines' largest network (still here to stay even if it had its 60th birthday last June 2K6)

And last, but not the least...

5) comprehensive reports from Pinoys nationwide via "Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo!"

For one blogger I've met and for everyone, please read this: This is the text component of Halalan 2007 where ABS-CBN invites the entire Philippine voting population to text/e-mail the reports and news events to ABS-CBN (anything and everything election-related, good or bad). If you know of candidates or officials with campaign promises not kept and problems with no solutions until now, or cases of election fraud/irregularity, or elected officials who have done a good job to the people, or any good election-related news event, here are the ways to report for Boto Mo I-Patrol Mo!

1) Text your report in this format
IREPORT<space><YOUR NAME><space><YOUR ADDRESS><space><YOUR CONTACT NUMBER><space><YOUR REPORT> to 2366 (available to all wireless phone networks in the Philippines).

2) For your election-related report in MMS, photos or videos (3G or not), send also to 2366 (for cellphone) or to the following e-mail address: mms@abs-cbn.com (for non-cellphone).

Although I have to commend ABS-CBN for its early launch of its Halalan 2007 Website last January 15, ABS-CBN Interactive must improve more on the website on the coming days, as one blogger would want to say-if it doesn't wants itself to be swamped by the competition.

Come May 14, I find myself tuned in to ABS-CBN Manila for Halalan 2007, and that's a Deal. Election troublemakers, beware as I have to report you to ABS-CBN. And my Kapamilyas, it's high time we must avoid Hello Garci and I Am Sorry this year. Let's go and vote and go on patrolling our votes!

My Piece of Dessert: Kapamilya Deal or No Deal

With the demise of Kapamilya Deal or No Deal due to host Kris Aquino taking a rest due to her delicate pregnancy courtesy of equally-controversial basketball player-husband James Yap (don't even ask me why), I miss a game show I like to watch daily. I first knew the show as a spin-off from the worldwide game show Deal or No Deal that has gotten people tuning in from New York to Mumbai and Madrid.

I admit, I miss it most of the time as I have to travel home from school-work (yes, I am a working student) all the way from La Salle in Taft Avenue in Manila to quiet downtown Paranaque City. But I have to say that the show did something good for me and for some, with Kris' bubbliness (that can make you smile or frown), the gorgeous 26K (whose names I have problems memorizing with-blame it on lack of peanuts in my digestive system), the ever-mysterious Mister Banker and the elusive Php 4Million Prize.

That show sown me inspiration as I was building this blog. Incidentally, a few days back, I find myself playing the PC game version of DOND. In that game, I struck a 5-digit dollar deal-which is a good decision, since I picked a briefcase with a 4-digit dollar amount.

Well, I will be saying Deal if Kris fulfills the promise of having KDOND back by June or July. (By this time, I pray Kris and James are A-OK.)

Fresh/Hot/Fast: Halalan Na, Bayan! (Philippines, The Elections Are Here!)

It's the Philippine national elections this time of the year--one moment you will yourself shaking hands with an administration candidate amidst a town fiesta (fiestas are here 365 days in the Philippines) and another moment you will see yourself eating with an opposition candidate at a birthday party. The controversy that was the 2004 Philippine national elections has to be stopped this time, and ABS-CBN has a way to monitor the ins and outs of the elections as they culminate on Election Day-14 May 2007-as the network's contribution to free, clean and honest elections. It invites the entire Philippine population who will vote to text/e-mail the reports and news events to ABS-CBN (anything and everything election-related, good or bad) via its national election public service plug "BOTO MO, I-PATROL MO!" as the countdown continues for Halalan 2007, ABS-CBN's national election day broadcast. If you know of candidates or officials with campaign promises not kept and problems with no solutions until now, or cases of election fraud/irregularity, or an elected official who have done good jobs to the people, or any good election-related news event, let ABS-CBN know ASAP.

Available since January 15 until even after the Election Day, the election plug has the following mechanics:

1) Text your report in this format
IREPORT<space><YOUR NAME><space><YOUR ADDRESS><space><YOUR CONTACT NUMBER><space><YOUR REPORT> to 2366 (available to all wireless phone networks in the Philippines).

2) For your election-related report in MMS, photos or videos (3G or not), send also to 2366 (for cellphone) or to the following e-mail address: mms@abs-cbn.com (for non-cellphone).

Better text/e-mail any election-related event in your area ASAP!

For ABS-CBN's brilliant way of inviting the public to participate in its marathon National Election Day Coverage, I'll say Deal.
